National Mentoring Month

National Mentoring Month is a global campaign to spread awareness of the importance of mentoring in society. We took this opportunity to show appreciation for the Youth First 1-2-1 service and its hard working and dedicated mentors.

The 1-2-1 service exists to support Lewishams' children and young people struggling with issues in health & wellbeing, relationships and positive impact on the community thaks to funding from Lewisham Council.

"Mentoring helps, supports, and advises people on how to be better versions of themselves. At Youth First, we offer mentoring to children and young people to help reach their goals and work on any areas they may be struggling. We promise to listen, not judge and keep our sessions at fun as possible and allow you to decide on what works best" - Aminata

We recently welcomed two additional female mentors to the team, who will help us as we continue working with young people in need of early intervention support. Our team is now made up of five qualified and experienced Youth Play and Community managers who work with young people and provide support through workshops, games, discussion and more. Each mentoring session is specifically tailored for each young person to best support and help them, to not only listen but find and nurture a passion within.

We want to thank all our Mentors and our young people who we hope to continue supporting as best we can!

"I like supporting young people in setting goals & targets and get them focus on a particular area or subject. I am there to support and help young people overcome obstacles & barriers and importantly, to listen" - Trevor
