More about Woodpecker Youth Club
Woodpecker Youth Centre, in the heart of Deptford, was established in 1996, replacing an old Community Centre as part of Lewisham’s Estate Action programme. The current building was officially opened in 2009. Since then the club has been coming alongside young people, building positive and consistent relationships and supporting them through the specific challenges they face particularly in this area of the borough.
The Woodpecker team of youth workers and volunteers focus on using the broad range of facilities to build a safe and supportive environment for young people. This includes supporting young people with homework, job searches and CV writing.
In addition to its spacious open hall, movie and e-sports lounge and dance studio, the club also boasts one of three popular Youth First music studios. Over the past few years young people have produced some great music here. With a studio refresh completed in September 2017, the music studio continues to be a creative outlet for aspiring musicians.
The team at Woodpecker are especially proud of the club's popular 'Food Fridays' where young people and youth workers sit around a table to share a hot, nutritious meal together. This sense of community is perhaps the essence of the club’s success.
From Tue 5 January 2021, England enters another lockdown and the youth sector moves into RED in the National Youth Agency's readiness framework.
This means that we can run:
- Online + digital youth services
- Detached/outdoor local youth services
and with high-need/vulnerable young people, we can run:
- 1-2-1 sessions
- Small group work sessions, by invite only
