Lewisham young people elected as Youth Directors

19th November 2017 by Scott Lawrence

On 10 November Amy West and Joel Owusu-Ansah were announced as Youth Directors 2017/18 for Youth First.

Youth directors are young people who play an active (and legal) role within the structure of Youth First. They are board members which means they attend regular meetings that involve making decisions on behalf of the company. They also collect the views of young people across Lewisham and ensure their interests and desires are at the heart of what we do.

Young people were given the opportunity to vote for their Youth Director of choice between 6 November and 9 November, after candidates spent a  successful month of campaigning across youth clubs and adventure playgrounds.

Results were received alongside chief executive Mervyn Kaye and former 2016 Youth Director Dolly Nightingale. Speaking of her now completed term, Dolly said 'being a Youth First Director was a great experience that allowed me to take part in so many opportunities and develop so many skills.'

The two newly elected Youth Directors shared 62% of the 339 votes cast by young people.

Their peers Rhianon Montaque & Alana Moritt will have the opportunity to act as advisors in the new year.
