Saturday 7th July saw thousands of people across Lewisham (and beyond) descend on Mountsfield Park in Catford for the Borough's annual free festival.
Seven music and performance stages, a pop-up youth club and sports arena kept celebrations high and the festival busy, despite competing with England's World Cup Quarter Final match.
As Lewisham's leading youth service, it was important for us to see young people have fun and feel welcomed and safe at the festival.
There was lots of fun at our pop-up club which featured glitter tattoos, t-shirt design and zorbing. We advertised our amazing summer youth schemes that will offer free activities across the holidays all over the borough, and invited people to become 'Friends of Youth First'. We also launched our 'Futures survey' - a way you can help design our future youth service beyond 2019.
We were proud to see hundreds of young people represent the borough - celebrating and enjoying time with friends. As part of our commitment to this future generation we had 12 street-based outreach Youth & Play Workers available in and around the festival site to encourage young people and be a voice and hand of support where necessary.
Thanks to everyone that made Lewisham People's Day such a fun and successful day (Lewisham Council worked extremely hard). A special high five to all the young people who we were so proud to represent and work alongside. Here's to next year!
Two ways to get involved
- Your chance to win an iPad - help us design our future by taking part in our Futures survey.
- Be an advocate for young people in Lewisham and keep up to date with our service by becoming a 'Friend of Youth First'.
