History of the club
Riverside Youth Club was opened in 1969 by legendary boxer Henry Cooper, initially as a boxing club for boys. It was designed to resemble a sail boat and alongside its name symbolises its closeness to the Thames.
It was re-launched in 2009 by Lewisham’s Mayor Sir Steve Bullock and Henry Cooper again, who by then was also a knight. The club works closely with local sporting organisations and charities, including nearby Millwall, to devise courses and activities for young people to have fun and grow into successful adults.
In more recent years the club had struggled but under Youth First’s management it is again attracting increasing numbers and rising to the challenge of offering fun, social and supportive sports and activities to the surrounding community.
