The Woodpecker Carnival Project

The Woodpecker Carnival Programme is a 3-year project which started in January 2020 and is funded by the Greater London Authority's 'Young Londoner's Fund'.

The project engages young people at risk of involvement in crime in a preventive programme of carnival-themed workshops. The programme explores everyday issues and struggles through carnival, culture and the creative arts.

A variety of creative workshops run to engage young people, including Drama, Textiles, Dance, Gymnastics and Music Production. These workshops build towards a celebratory carnival event each year.

The workshops are based at Woodpecker Youth Club in New Cross and are designed to build young people's resilience and self-esteem. They provide a safe space for young people to build stronger peer relationships and receive support from expert youth workers.
